The provisions of the Major Accident Hazard Ordinance, as published on March 15, 2017 (Federal Law Gazette I, p. 483), most recently amended by Article 107 of the Ordinance of June 19, 2020 (Federal Law Gazette I, p. 1328), require operators of facilities handling hazardous substances to inform the public about appropriate safety measures and procedures in the event of a major accident. This document fulfills this obligation to provide information, which has been extended to “lower-tier” facilities.

Application of the Major Accident Ordinance, confirmation that the operating area is subject to the regulations
Due to the storage of raw materials for production, the Weserland GmbH operating area is subject to the Major Accident Hazard Ordinance and is classified as a “lower class” establishment. The operating area has been reported accordingly to the State Office for Occupational Safety and Health in Hanover.
Clear explanations of the activities in the operational area
Weserland GmbH develops, produces, and distributes chemical products and compounds (mixtures) and performs contract processing. In this process, two solid raw materials classified as “toxic” (acute toxicity category 3) are dispersed in water. Some of the products are also classified accordingly.
Relevant hazardous substances present in the operating area
Weserland GmbH stores and processes two raw materials that fall under the Major Accident Hazard Ordinance. The maximum storage quantity of these raw materials and products, classified as acutely toxic category 3, is 190 tons.
To ensure that the potential hazards of a product can be recognized immediately, hazardous substances must be labelled with the appropriate symbols. A single product can also possess several different hazardous properties.
