Digitalisation of Pallet Logistics through QR Codes
Over the past decades, the Euro pallet has established itself as an indispensable part of global logistics. With the introduction of QR codes on Epal Euro pallets, this load carrier is now also becoming an important information carrier. This new technology from the European Pallet Association (Epal) demonstrates significant progress in the digitalisation of logistics processes and opens up a wide range of possibilities for optimising supply chains and inventory management. Pallet logistics is thus becoming a very relevant element of the entire transport chain.
The use of codes on pallets enables each pallet to be individually labelled and integrated into existing IT systems. This individual labelling ensures that each pallet has a unique identity, which significantly improves transparency and traceability along the entire supply chain. By linking the QR code to the transported goods, companies can monitor the current location and condition of the load carriers in real time. This helps to increase efficiency in logistics while ensuring the availability of pallets in the right place and at the right time.
Increased Efficiency and Sustainability through Digital Pallets
In addition to improving logistics efficiency, the use of QR codes on pallets also supports the sustainability goals of many companies. The QR code acts as a digital product passport that stores important information on the production, material composition and reuse of the pallet. This data not only helps to prevent counterfeiting, but also facilitates compliance with future legal requirements in the context of the circular economy.
Davide Dellavalle, Vice President of Epal, comments: ‘The advantages of using Epal pallets with QR codes in pallet logistics are manifold. This is demonstrated by the use of conventional labelling, which is still common today but involves a lot of costs, labour and waste. In the future, users will be able to monitor and control pallet logistics with a new web app from Epal or with their existing warehouse management or ERP systems. Receiving real-time data not only optimises goods logistics, but also pallet logistics.’
The ability to track the life cycle of a pallet in detail opens up new ways of recycling and reusing materials. This enables companies to utilise their resources more efficiently and reduce their ecological footprint. The QR code on Epal Euro pallets is therefore an important building block in the further development of the circular economy. The ‘Epal Euro pallet QR’ is more than just a load carrier – it is a central component of modern, sustainable logistics.
